A native TV app needs no additional device and can usually be operated with the existing remote. The set-up remains tidy. On current Samsung or LG televisions, this can be very convenient. Limitations arise when the app store offers few players, the TV model no longer receives updates or the hardware responds slowly.
Advantages of a Fire TV Stick
A streaming stick provides its own regularly maintained platform and often a larger app selection. It can be replaced without replacing the television, which is particularly useful with older Smart TVs. However, it requires a free HDMI port, power and possibly a second remote control.
Compare performance and operation
Test start-up time, navigation, EPG loading and switching between categories. An app that runs smoothly on one TV model may be slow on another. The best interface is the one your household can use without explanation.
Updates and lifespan
Televisions are used for many years, while app support and operating-system updates may end sooner. An external stick is easier to replace. The direct TV app remains the most elegant solution as long as it is stable and current.
